CULTURAL COMPETITION (PART 2): BTS Before the Big Day

All the cadets were in high spirits, contributing in one way or another to help their house win the Cultural Competition Trophy, which, in turn, would boost their chances in the Cock House race. But before taking you guys directly to the cultural fest day, you need to have a peek behind the scenes(BTS) of the journey till the big day.

The auditorium was segregated into four sections, providing practice space for each house. These sections were systematically rotated to promote fairness, as a few practice areas had strategic advantages over the others.

Now, coming to the practice sessions, Hari Prasad Sir closely orchestrated our skit rehearsals. Every now and then, he would tweak the dialogues and even change characters to make the performance even more humorous. Along with the skit, he took it upon himself to oversee the other activities of our house as well.

For the dance category, he selected a high-energy dance number from the movie Style, which was well-known for its choreography. The practice was commanded by our very own Michael Jackson, Cdt. C. Akshit (Nickname: Chunnu. It loosely refers to someone who sucks things. He earned this nickname because he had the habit of sucking his right thumb all the time.)

Cdt. Jyoteeswara (Nickname: Jyothi) and Cdt. Kalyan Chakravarthy, with their gift of the gab, were chosen as the MCs to provide commentary throughout the events. Initially, however, Hari Prasad Sir didn't pay much attention to this segment and simply handed them a rough script to work with for the time being.

Then came the singing category. Our house's own Arijit Singh, Saurabh Kumar (Nickname: Dhodewala. It means "the one who runs." And why did we christen him with this nickname? Well, he happened to be a great cross-country runner. That's it. Sometimes, that's all it takes to create a nickname.), was given complete freedom to choose the song. A chorus was put together, and the melancholic heartbreak song Dard Dilo Ke became our pick.

Finally, for the special category, we planned to perform a mime inspired by a YouTube video that highlighted the importance of water through its powerful and hard-hitting antics.

Every cadet found his purpose in whichever activity he was involved in. Even if someone was assigned the role of a non-living door, he would practice it with more sincerity than the role actually demanded. Such was the zeal. But what's the use? Many things were changed for the better almost at the very last minute.

Let's end on this cliffhanger, as the events that followed deserve an article of their own, and squeezing them into this one would only make it unnecessarily long. So, you know the drill—until next time, take care, be happy, and bye.
