TV ROOM: Our Escape to Another Reality
Being seniors, we were held responsible for our juniors and for maintaining the discipline and etiquette of our respective houses. Coming to Krishna House, after having a few conversations with our juniors, we received several complaints about strange noises at midnight—sounds of someone moving around, murmuring, and other unexplained disturbances.
As we dug deeper into the issue, they told us that most of these sounds seemed to originate from the floor near the TV room.
For your information, each house dormitory had its own TV room, located between the two wings of ground floor consisting of three rooms for each batch. As far as I remember—maybe when we were in 9th class or somewhere around that time—we discovered an illegal way to access the TV room.
Nothing magical.
We simply loosened the screws of the window that faced our rooms, creating a strategic little portal into the TV room.
So yes... the mysterious noises our juniors kept complaining about were actually the result of our cloak-and-dagger midnight missions to the TV room.
It sure was risky business.
If we were caught, we'd have had to face the music in the form of corporal punishment—or perhaps something even more serious. More importantly, if our secret entrance would have been discovered, the security would be tightened, and we'd never have been able to sneak into the TV room that way again.
It was like an undercover operation.
We followed an almost foolproof procedure every single time. Since we had to be extra careful, we always assigned our fastest and most skilled guy to remove the screws as quickly as possible. Then, one by one, we silently slipped inside.
Every operation came with the constant fear of getting caught. One wrong move, one unexpected noise, one careless mistake—and we were goners.
In fact, even if everything went perfectly, we considered it only half the victory.
Now came the real objective of the mission:
TO WATCH TV.
Ironically, this turned out to be the biggest hurdle of the entire operation.
It came with its own set of challenges.
❎ Sound
❎ Brightness
❎ Chairs
(Yes... the chairs in the TV room were a menace. If someone accidentally bumped into one in the dark, it created a spectacular amount of unwanted noise.)
At first, these problems seemed almost impossible to overcome.
But remember, friends—
Where there's a will, there's a way.
✅ Sound: We kept the TV volume extremely low—just enough for us to hear, but not loud enough to alert anyone.
✅ Brightness: We dimmed the TV brightness through the settings, while the curtains conveniently blocked most of the faint light from escaping outside.
✅ Chairs: We carried a small torch to navigate through the maze of chairs without knocking any of them over.
As time passed, we kept evolving our methods.
One such improvement was wearing dark clothes to camouflage ourselves into the night.
It certainly came in handy during our famous prison-break stunt as well. (For reference, read "Into the Night.")
Gradually, the TV room became our little escape from reality.
It wasn't just a room anymore.
It became a place where we shared laughter, watched television in constant fear of getting caught, and created memories that still make us smile today.
Looking back, we miss that kind of thrill.
Life today feels far more predictable.
After all, what do we really have worth remembering if not moments like these?
Okay then, till next time.
Take care, be happy, and goodbye.
